A Room Away From the WolvesA Room Away From the Wolves by Nova Ren Suma
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved this book and I thought the writing was brilliant but I have so many questions! I feel like I just watched LOST again! So, please someone help me out. I would really love to know what others thought. Here’s are my questions and theories:

1- So, the stepsisters killed Bina and the mom just keeps living with her husband and family? No-one has a hunch? They were all at the same party! I’m outraged!

2-I assumed that all the girls in Catherine House are dead? In limbo? But that becomes problematic when we learn that Bina’s mom, Dawn, was there and managed to escape. Does that mean that she was having a near-death experience while she was at Catherine House?

3-How was the Dad able to see Bina? Or was he?

4-Monet is Bina’s mom, right? And after she died she gave her daughter her wish of exploring NYC and Catherine House through her eyes? Thus, keeping her promise/righting her wrongs?

5-Omg, so the cat, Vinny is also like a century old?

6-How was the old cat lady across the street and the police able to see the girls? Were they not ghosts?

7-Was Catherine trapped in the painting just a metaphor for the girls being trapped somewhere between life and death? And when she’s freed, that symbolises that the girls can move on?

8-I know Bina gave a reason, but still don’t understand why she wanted to give her mom the portrait her dad painted.

9-What was the significance of the opal?

10-Bina being able to hold the opal and the painting and her conversations with people outside of the house doesn’t hold together if she’s a ghost.

11-What was up with the staircase that led to nowhere? I assumed it led to the roof? And Bina’s mother used it?

Whew, I think that’s it.

What did everyone else think?
